We are Officially in the “Then They Fight You” Stage… next is “Then You Win”
Facebook announced additional platform regulations that will stymie QAnon supporters’ ability to promote the conspiracy theory.
The social media platform announced on Wednesday that they “are expanding our Dangerous Individuals and Organizations policy to address organizations and movements that have demonstrated significant risks to public safety but do not meet the rigorous criteria to be designated as a dangerous organization and banned from having any presence on our platform.”
The policy says that they will remove pages, groups, or accounts that discuss potential violence, “including when they use veiled language and symbols particular to the movement to do so.”
As a result of the limitations, Facebook removed nearly 800 groups, 100 pages, and 1,500 ads tied to QAnon, the conspiratorial theory that alleges there is a group of powerful sex traffickers, many of whom they say are Democrats, working to take down President Trump. On Instagram, they also imposed restrictions on nearly 2,000 groups, 440 pages, and more than 10,000 accounts.
The policy also targeted U.S.-based militia organizations. Facebook removed nearly 1,000 groups, more than 400 pages and 160 ads from Facebook that were from militia organizations encouraging riots. They also restricted more than 1,400 hashtags related to these groups and organizations on Instagram.
